Best 2017 Movie Identity/Advertising Design Award – The Oscars

Once again, like last year, I am pushing hard to include this new category for “Graphic/Advertising Design” in the Academy Awards because I believe agencies and graphic designers deserve recognition for their work in promoting a movie and translating the essence of a 2hours film into one single image.

A good identity and campaign can make a movie succeed, as well as a bad campaign can make a movie to fail. Why? Because it is everywhere! In the billboards, in the buildings, at every bus stop, in the online banners, in the movie theaters… literally everywhere, and it is the only “point of contact” that viewers have with the movie before watching it, besides the trailers. Therefore designers and creative agencies deserve an award for this hard work that seems simple but that is as big and important for a movie as costume design and soundtracks.
